A recent article in the Telegraph highlighted the fact that the number of frail elderly and disabled people receiving care at home has been slashed by a third in just five years.
This is of course as a result of local authority budget cuts and just at a time when the number of older people has been growing almost twice as fast as the general population.
This article goes on to say ‘Councils have been quietly tightening their eligibility criteria for care, rationing it to all but those in the most severe need’. Recent research concluded that the contraction in care services in the past five years alone is “unprecedented” and warns that further reductions are likely.
Last year there was a lot of publicity about 15 minute call outs. I certainly could not get washed, dressed, have breakfast and be ready for work in that time.
Do you know anyone who is struggling to manage at home? If so…
